Cardano Foundation cancels 2026 summit after treasury funding vote falls just short
Crypto Insight Summary: The Cardano Foundation has cancelled the planned Cardano Summit 2026 after an onchain treasury funding vote failed to reach the required two-thirds supermajority of delegated representative (DRep) stake. The revised proposal sought 7.8 million ADA (approximately $2 million) to host a two-day summit in Singapore on October 5–6, and received 65.21% support, falling just short of the 66.67% threshold needed for treasury withdrawals. While 135 DReps voted in favor compared to 61 against with 24 abstaining, and the Constitutional Committee approved the measure, the stake-weighted outcome was not enough. Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson and Foundation CEO Frederik Gregaard publicly urged DReps to approve the revised request, while the Foundation itself abstained to avoid influencing the result. The scaled-back proposal had already been cut from an original 14.07 million ADA (~$3.66 million) request that bundled the summit with an EMURGO-run TOKEN2049 sponsorship, with the decoupled version adding audited fund management and milestone-gated payments. EMURGO's separate TOKEN2049 Platinum Sponsorship proposal, which the Foundation voted in favor of, passed independently, preserving Cardano's presence at the Singapore conference. The cancellation continues a 2026 trend in which DReps have rejected multiple treasury requests tied to Cardano's founding organizations, including a scaled-back Input Output Crypto Insight Analysis: Direction: Bearish ADA Impact: Minor Impact Horizon: Short-term (1-3 days) Reasoning: Funding rejection signals community governance challenges, impacting ADA sentiment.
